Magnification
Spotlight can also be instructed to automatically double the size of your image on your web page. This is great for speeding up your page loading times as you can use much smaller images that will only be one quarter of the displayed size. Additionally, it uses a anti-alias effect to smooth out any blocky edges.
The Spotlight applet above uses an image that is only 198 * 87, yet the displayed size is 396 * 174. This is the original image:
So, the small image here is only a small 16 KB image file. If you were to save this image at the size Spotlight magnifies it to on the page, it would actually be 48 KB in size.

How Does It Work?
